A running of the bulls is basically a game of stubbornness, betting. What do I get in front of? What do I take away from you? And in it sometimes the runner wins, other times the bull or even remain on the boards, with parallel and insipid races in which nobody messes with anyone.
On a day like today in 2015, Tuesday, the riders who went to Pamplona were on notice. The Jandilla iron was announced , with a well-earned reputation for problems, with bulls more lumbering than the Osasuna centrals of the 80s, and good firewood in the heads. No one could say that he did not know what he was playing. And they played.
Those who played it the most before were the runners from Santo Domingo, sybarites from the Pamplona running of the bulls who savor every second that passes by the antlers. They run in shots, no binging and tens of meters at a gallop. They are hardly known to the general public: their colorful shirts do not stand out, almost all wear orthodox white and there are almost no cameras that photograph their effort. And television shows watch them go by so fast that they sometimes pixelate.
The point is that in less than half a minute the whole herd, three chestnuts and three blacks, had already passed under the Santo's niche and given the first scare on the right. Body to ground one after another. One of the black morlacos started a sprint there as soon as he took control of the group's head, with an unbearable gallop. This way he ran over young men one after another, from the center of the street to the right sidewalk, where he left a gored in the thorax. Seen and unseen. After falling, it seems that he was satisfied and continued at a good pace, but without detaching himself from the pack.
The descent to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento was really unusual, with a couple of slips and a little compact group, the backs of two of the chestnut trees glowing against the light.
But the really strange thing was the cornering. Among the wooden fences at the end there was no longer a herd, only a rosary of bulls, some accompanied by halters and others alone, already a little tired or tired, wanting to get to the plaza, now allowing the waiters they let them arrive and they would shine before the cameras, for posterity.
