How to remember slavery?

At the time when statues linked to slavery and colonization were unbolted around the world, echoing the death of George Floyd in the United States, the city of Bordeaux, in the southwest of France decided to explain.

In early June 2020, five new street signs were hung. They clarify the past of negroes of local honored personalities.

A debate initiative. Associations believe that it does not go far enough. Researchers consider it useless, even anachronistic. RFI went to Bordeaux to better understand the terms of this debate, in a city that has only faced its slave past for 20 years.
