In the United States, the question of "reparations for slavery" in debate

The death of George Floyd still shakes America, through this drama the country questions its past slavery. The question of "Reparations for slavery" via compensation comes up forcefully in the debate. Indeed, after the American Civil War the freed slaves should have had a small piece of land and the means to work it. But the promise was never kept, thus condemning the former slaves to poverty. Advocates of "reparations" believe that giving black people what they are owed is not only a matter of social justice but also a means of bridging the economic gap between white and black people.

Mammoths in a mess in Mexico City

It is hard to believe today but millions of years ago, Mexico City was a lush plain with diverse and dense fauna including many mammoths. Today, the capital still retains many traces of the passage of these huge mammals and the site of the new airport was the occasion for several discoveries. A real treasure for the paleontologists who were able to update carcasses, certainly, dislocated but complete. The Mexican megalopolis is a paradise for archaeologists and paleontologists!

Finally Haiti, where we follow the adventures of young Poto through 50 years of the country's history, told by Mackenzy Orcel in "Maitre de Minuit".

Containment for better and for worse

Kenya: the drama of teenage pregnancies

For three months now, Kenya has been confined to fight the coronavirus pandemic. This health measure has unfortunately led to a real human tragedy: the country is facing an unprecedented wave of teenage pregnancies. Before the schools closed, many parents working in Nairobi sent their children to the countryside, entrusted to family or relatives. But these children often found themselves a little left to their own devices. These are young girls from 12 to 18 years old, sometimes younger, who today see their lives broken.

In Rwanda: cancer treatments delivered by drones

Containment is also, sometimes, the occasion of good ideas to face the urgency of the situation. In Rwanda, where there are only two oncology centers for the whole country. With the confinement and closing of internal borders, seeking treatment was impossible. Fortunately, thanks to an NGO and a start-up, a system for delivering medicines by drones has emerged. An innovation that will last as long as it has improved the daily lives of patients.

Japan: a summer not fun!

Despite a low mortality rate, Japan remains extremely vigilant with regard to the coronavirus epidemic and fears a second wave of contamination. The Japanese are preparing to live in summer under high surveillance and very laborious. As a precaution, all festivals, traditional celebrations or sporting events are canceled. And in this gloomy atmosphere, the Japanese are invited to support their economy and work as much as possible, to the point that a new concept is developing: workation or how to work in your vacation place!
