The virulent attacks by Pablo Iglesias on the press and the Justice, as a result of the information that reveals him and his party in the Dina case, represent an intolerable attempt by the Government to intimidate two of the pillars of our democracy. . Because, far from sticking to a strictly partisan sphere, the vice-president's invectives link the Government and Pedro Sánchez himself, who until now has opted for an onerous inhibition in the face of what can only be described as irresponsible and unjustifying behavior by Iglesias . Throughout more than four decades of democracy, there are no precedents for a systematic attack by the Executive Vice President on the media. The appointment of Iglesias to journalists and judges, verbalized with an absolutely improper viciousness of the institutional position that he occupies, must be framed in an undisguised illiberal drift . A government that attacks freedom of information constitutes a danger to citizens, which requires not only the disapproval by pate of the media, which, like EL MUNDO, we are not going to give up in our efforts to uncover the truth, but of our own democratic institutions.

This Sunday we revealed the conversations of the Podemos lawyers that show that the Dina case was politically handled by the party in an electoral context and that not even within the purple formation did they believe their own version that the phone card of the Former adviser Dina Bousselham had been stolen by the police mafia that was allegedly run by former Commissioner Villarejo. During a rally in Vigo, Iglesias reacted with fury yesterday. He presented himself again as the victim of an alleged police sewer and threatened to summon journalists to testify in a parliamentary commission of inquiry.

Iglesias' aggressive attitude is typical of populism when he is cornered by his falsehoods and creates a smokescreen to divert attention from a scandal that strikes his party at his own person. In any case, the coercion of the media - which extends not only to this newspaper but to other leaders and journalists with an impeccable track record such as Vicente Vallés - are a stain both for the Executive and for our democracy as a whole. The leader of Podemos will have to answer to the courts as the alleged perpetrator of two crimes in which the Iglesias case has already become. However, the vice president's disapproval corresponds to the institutions, which are entrusted with the guarantee of freedoms . This requirement is incumbent on the Government of which Iglesias is a member, but also on Parliament or the Ombudsman. The vice president's inadmissible campaign against the press cannot go unpunished. It is at stake to preserve a fundamental right such as that of information.
