BEIJING, July 4 electric question: must return to solving new scientific questions crown

  Author: Lu Baixi

More and more scientific studies have found that the starting point of interpersonal transmission of the new coronavirus is earlier than we expected.

A research team at the University of Barcelona in Spain announced at the end of June that researchers had detected new coronavirus from Barcelona wastewater samples collected in March last year. This shows that the new coronavirus had already spread in Barcelona. Coincidentally, researchers at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil announced on July 2 that they were taking water samples from the sewers in the city of Florianópolis, the capital of the state of Santa Catarina, from October last year to March this year. After analysis, it was discovered that there was a new coronavirus in the sewer water sample last November.

Looking back, the United States, Italy, France and other countries have found evidence of virus transmission earlier than the earliest known cases in the past few months. The continuous advancement of the multi-country epidemic timeline not only confirmed the judgment of "multiple outbreaks of the epidemic in the world", but also effectively smashed the rumors of "China's origin theory" and "China's responsibility theory".

As we all know, virus tracing is a scientific issue and should be judged by scientists and medical experts rather than politicians. For the public health and safety of all mankind, the international community generally supports cooperative research on traceability issues. However, this work should not become a "presumption of guilt" investigation against China, and relevant research should be conducted on a global scale based on the principles of objectivity, fairness, and pragmatism.

In addition to the undetermined source, the virus itself has many unanswered questions. For example, how did the virus break through the species barrier and begin to spread among humans? What are the transmission routes of the virus? In addition to the most serious fatal consequences, what other viruses may cause damage to the human body? Will the virus mutate and will it coexist with humans for a long time like the flu virus in the future? Can the vaccine help humans get permanent antibodies?

It must be said that the new corona virus is a very cunning and difficult opponent, and humans have a very shallow understanding of the new corona virus.

Up to now, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the world has exceeded 10.89 million, and the number of deaths has exceeded 520,000. Humankind has paid a huge price in this epidemic. What is more worrying is that the virus is still spreading at a high speed around the world, and this once-in-a-century public health crisis will continue for a considerable period of time.

Mankind must be soberly aware of the complexity and long-term nature of the fight against epidemics, must scientifically and rationally prevent and control it, and must speed up the development of vaccines; it must reject all anti-intellectual behavior, refuse to use the epidemic to stigmatize, and refuse to spread conspiracy theories. Human beings live on the same earth and are closely connected communities of destiny. No country can be alone, and can only go hand in hand. (Finish)
