At the microphone of Philippe Vandel, on Europe 1, the singer Tom Leeb explained why he refused to participate in the 2021 edition of Eurovision.

INTERVIEW

Guest Friday of Culture Média, on Europe 1, singer Tom Leeb explained why he will not represent France at Eurovision, in 2021, when the 2020 edition has been canceled. "I have other plans and Eurovision is taking a long time. You have to be really available. I had to decline," he said.

The singer, who is also the son of comedian Michel Leeb, has indeed signed a contract with the production company Live Nation. "Two films will also be released next year," added Tom Leeb. The song chosen by Tom Leeb to represent France this year at Eurovision,  The Best in me,  was not unanimous. Because the lyrics were in English: an element that had not pleased, among others, the Minister of Culture, Franck Riester.

An unconvinced minister

At the National Assembly, he had gone so far as to affirm in February that the title had "broken his ears a little". "I passed the message of my amazement on a song whose chorus is written in English," he said. A negative opinion that Tom Leeb took however with philosophy. "It is to his honor to defend the French language," he says.

However, the young man recalls that he was not the only one to sing in English. "At Eurovision, there are songs in English all the time. I even think there was more English in Bilal's song [Hassani] than mine".

Faced with this lack of consensus, Tom Leeb had released an acoustic version of his title, entitled My ally . However, he will be present this year at the Eurovision final, which will see the artists perform by videoconference.
