In "Rock'n'Roll Show", an album and DVD box released in early June retracing the tour of 15 concerts in 1990, Francis Cabrel pays tribute to his friend Dick Rivers, who died in 2019. He recounts their meeting and their common taste for 1950s rock at the microphone of Emilie Mazoyer, on Europe 1.

INTERVIEW

A common passion for music and rock crossed the paths of Francis Cabrel and Dick Rivers in the early 80s. Some time later, in 1990, the two singers went together on a tour called Rock'n ' Roll Show . For more than a month, the two rock fans of the 50s took songs from Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley or Little Richard. Thirty years later, to pay tribute to his friend who died in 2019, Francis Cabrel decided to release an album and DVD box retracing this tour.

A meeting thanks to Europe 1

It was also at the time of Dick Rivers' disappearance that Francis Cabrel had the idea for this box set, "the best tribute we could give him". Guitarist Denys Lable then collects all the bands he can find to reconstruct this tour. "It was so strong that I feel like it was yesterday. We made exactly the music that carried us," says Francis Cabrel, thinking back to the concert at Bataclan. "Dick was a great Rock'n'Roll singer and I do what I can," he smiles.

In the program Musique! , Francis Cabrel also talks about his meeting with Dick Rivers in the 80s: " Europe 1 organized 'conventions' where all the people in the profession met. It was in large sunny hotels on other confinements. In the evening , there were big oxen [an improvised musical session, note]. We met on stage and we realized that we liked the same music. Our friendship started like that ".
