Tesla, which sells 400,000 cars a year, becomes the world's largest automobile market capitalization. With so few sales, is the stock market absurd or visionary? Axel de Tarlé brought his lighting, Thursday on Europe 1.

Tesla becomes the world's largest automotive market capitalization. However, its production remains tiny. So, is the stock market absurd or visionary? Question at 200 billion dollars, the incredible market value of Tesla which, on the stock market, has exceeded all Toyota, Volkswagen and other General Motors.

Two figures to measure the absurdity of the thing. Tesla produces 400,000 cars a year and is worth 200 billion on the stock market. Renault produces 4 million cars per year, therefore, 10 times more but is worth on the stock market 7 billion, or 30 times less! So, yes, we are not in rationality. With Tesla, we are even in the irrational. Those who buy Tesla cars are not customers, they are fans!

So, will Tesla be overtaken by the reality of the numbers? Many have been predicting the fall of Tesla and his whimsical boss Elon Musk, who smokes firecrackers and wants to colonize Mars, for a long time. But Tesla is still there. Because there is this little idea running through the minds of scholarship holders: what if Tesla was the Amazon, or the Apple of the automobile?

Let’s ask ourselves a little. Who could have imagined 20 years ago that the world's number 1 mobile phone on the stock market would be Apple. A company that had never manufactured a mobile phone and yet killed all Nokia, BlackBerry, Alcatel or Ericsson. Likewise, who could have imagined that the number 1 of mass distribution, who was going to unbolt giants like Carrefour or Wal-Mart, who could have imagined that it was an obscure website called Amazon.

This is called disrupting. It is possible, when there is a change in technology. And it is this bet that is made with Tesla. Elon Musk will end up rolling traditional builders. In 20 years, the car will be electric and autonomous. It means ultra connected. So yes, Peugeot and Renault will have to hang on to follow. And Wall Street fellows are betting that Tesla has more of a future.
