Will the British government hear the call of the 1,500 musicians who appealed for help? Boris Johnson announced the reopening of pubs on July 4 - as well as other non-essential businesses such as hairdressers - but, as the Let The Music Play initiative recalls , "with no end to social distancing and no financial agreement in place with the government for now, the future of theaters, concerts, festivals and the thousands of people who work there seems bleak. ”

Today, we are joining with promoters, artists, festival goers and music lovers to call on the UK government to offer support to the live industry, which is frankly on its knees and faces being wiped out. #LetTheMusicPlay

The initiative brings together no less than 1,500 artists, including Coldplay, Paul McCartney, Dua Lipa, Liam Gallagher, Blur, CĂ©line Dion or even Lionel Richie, Patti Smith and Christine and the Queens.

The signatories recall that the music industry "contributes 5.2 billion pounds a year to the economy and employs nearly 200,000 people". They demand "a clear agenda for the reopening of theaters without social distancing", "support for employment and businesses", and "a total exemption from VAT on ticket sales". Among their proposals to support employees in industry and businesses: "an extension of technical unemployment", "helping self-employed people financially", or even "suspension of rents for concert halls".

Boris Johnson and his government have yet to respond to the call of the performing arts. The Prime Minister's latest slogan is "build, build, build". As he announced, he plans a large plan (ÂŁ 5 billion) for the building industry to renovate hospitals, the road network, transportation, schools and prisons.
