The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Lin Zhengyue, welcomes the NPC Standing Committee's adoption of the Hong Kong National Security Law

  Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, June 30 (Reporter Liu Mingyang) The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Lin Zheng Yuee issued a statement on the 30th that the SAR Government welcomes the National People's Congress Standing Committee's adoption of the "Law on the Maintenance of National Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China." She believes that after the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, Hong Kong society can restore stability at an early date, and Hong Kong can start again.

  Lin Zhengyue said that safeguarding national security is the constitutional responsibility of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The SAR Government welcomes the adoption of the Hong Kong National Security Law by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and consults the Basic Law Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and the Hong Kong SAR Government. Listed in Annex III of the Basic Law.

  Lin Zhengyue pointed out that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is an inseparable part of the People’s Republic of China. It is a local administrative region with a high degree of autonomy and is directly under the Central People’s Government. Safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests is the constitutional responsibility of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and is also closely related to the people of Hong Kong. In view of the increasingly prominent national security risks faced by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, it is necessary and urgent for the central government to formulate laws on the national security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to maintain national security at the national level to plug the loopholes in Hong Kong's national security. This legislation is an important step in the improvement of the "one country, two systems" system and will enable Hong Kong society to return to stability at an early date.

  Lin Zhengyue said that the SAR government will complete the required gazette announcement procedures as soon as possible. She also said that the SAR Government will establish the National Security Council with the Chief Executive as Chairman as soon as possible in accordance with the provisions of the Hong Kong National Security Law. The Department of Justice and the Police Department of the SAR Government will establish full-time departments to be responsible for the implementation of the relevant legal provisions of Hong Kong’s National Security Law.

  Lin Zhengyue expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress for listening to the views of the SAR Government and various sectors of the Hong Kong society in the process of drafting laws, and was encouraged by the enthusiastic support of the Hong Kong people. She said that with confidence in the implementation of Hong Kong’s National Security Law, the social unrest that has plagued the public for the past year can subside and the situation has stabilized. Hong Kong can start again, focusing on economic development and improving people’s livelihood.
