  • Without mixing, nor dance floor: this is the proposal of the night world to hope to reopen soon.
  • Until this Wednesday and an inter-ministerial meeting, the middle of the party felt abandoned by the State.
  • This Wednesday in Paris, disc jockeys "mixed to protest" against the non-reopening of nightclubs and the cancellation of festivals.

Hard pressed after more than three months of inactivity because of the coronavirus, and still without the prospect of reopening, night professionals hope to regain the sense of celebration on July 10, with nightclubs revisited in Covid-19 mode, without mixing , nor dance floor.

"Today, we were listened to and heard," said, relieved, Thierry Fontaine, president of the night branch of Umih, the main hotel and restaurant trade union, at the end of Wednesday of an interministerial meeting dedicated to night establishments.

But the National Union of Discotheques and Places of Leisure (SNDLL) regretted in a press release that "neither the representative of Health nor that of the Ministry of the Interior, planned, came," lambasting "the little consideration reach to the sector ”.

Until then, the latter, which has 1,600 establishments achieving a billion euros in turnover per year and represents 25,000 jobs, according to SNDLL, felt abandoned by the State, with the sole prospect of a possible reopening in September , which would hurt the whole profession.

"If the clubs don't reopen, it's going to be a massacre"

“In our trades, we can face a short season but not a“ non-season ”. If the clubs do not reopen next week, it will be a massacre: it is estimated that only 400 to 500 establishments will survive, "said AFP Jean Roch Pedri, DJ and manager of several nightclubs including the VIP Room in Saint- Tropez, which normally opens from June to September.

"The night needs its recovery plan, the night must reopen at the latest on July 10", proclaimed independent actors of the musical and festive scene, in a forum and an online petition since last Thursday, while rooms concerts and festivals come up against barrier measures that are hardly compatible with their economic model.

"Mix to protest"

This Wednesday in Paris, disc jockeys "mixed to protest" against the non-reopening of nightclubs and the cancellation of festivals.

" I can not do anything. Everything is canceled, locked. And we don't know when we're going to resume. We are the forgotten ones, the last on the list, ”regretted to Toni Vegas, DJ. The mobilization, in a performance hall in the Grands Boulevards district, in the center of the capital, included a dozen DJs on Wednesday evening, wearing a black mask with the writing "I am a DJ" on it, as well as some union members. "This is a profession that is clearly in mortal danger," said Michael Fox, CEO of Places of Emotion group and event organizer.

At the same time, clandestine parties are organized in France without health precautions, argue the professionals, as many "occasions of contamination without any means of tracing the epidemic" of coronavirus, while the discos are themselves equipped "smoke extraction systems that completely renew the air every 8 to 10 minutes".

An imagined health protocol

And this, while the operators of nightclubs are working with the Ministry of Health on a health protocol that "guarantees the safety of staff and customers," said Patrick Malvaes, president of SNDLL.

"We proposed to put tables on the dance floors: the groups will stay together and dance near their table", explains Thierry Fontaine. "We want to prevent people from all over France from meeting up at 300 to dance and going home to spread the virus."

In addition, professionals will encourage their customers to download the StopCovid application, and to wash their hands regularly with hydroalcoholic gel, physical distancing will be maintained, especially in smoking rooms.

Extended bar mode, open spaces used

Professionals also want establishments with outdoor dance floors to be able to use these spaces outdoors, with the same sanitary protocol.

Once the latter has been finalized with the Ministry of Health, a Defense Council, the date of which has not yet been set, could set a reopening date for discotheques.

The SNDLL's public interlocutors said on Wednesday, according to the organization, that they were going to discuss with the health authorities so that the Council "" favorably re-examines your possible opening "in extended bar mode". But the union, in its statement, spoke of "the distress of a profession which is awaiting something else".
