  • The rock group Marquis de Sade, renamed Marquis, will release a new album in late January 2021.
  • He will pay tribute to Philippe Pascal, the former singer of the group who died on September 12.
  • Etienne Daho will perform one of the tracks on the album.

The year 2019 was tragic for the group Marquis de Sade with the disappearance of its emblematic singer Philippe Pascal, who died on September 12. Ten months after the drama, the Rennes group gave news to their fans, announcing the release of a new album in late January 2021 with a first title to be released in September. It is under a new name, Marquis, that the rock group will return to the shelves. "Marquis quite simply because it seemed to the rest of the group that it was impossible to continue the adventure without Philippe under the name of Marquis de Sade," the group said in a statement.

The recording of the album had started in the summer of 2018 and the project "was initially scheduled to be the third album of Marquis de Sade". Two new titles, written and sung in English by Philippe Pascal, had already been burned to hard drive. But these two songs will not ultimately be on the Marquis album. "They will be released at the end of 2021 in a box that will summarize the entire career of Marquis de Sade," said the group.

Marquis' album will therefore include 13 tracks, composed and performed by Eric Morinière, Thierry Alexandre and Franck Darcel. It is the young Belgian singer Simon Mahieu who will perform eight songs in solo. Christian Dargelos, singer of the Nudes, and Dirk Polak, singer of Mecano, will also sing on the album, as will Etienne Daho who will interpret a title he himself wrote and which will pay tribute to Philippe Pascal.

"Marquis' album is both a new start as well as a tribute to Philippe Pascal", concludes the group, which will launch in the coming days a participatory kitty to help finalize its project.
