Australia: Koala May Disappear From South Australia By 2050 - 20 Minutes

Eight months after the fires that ravaged southern Australia and decimated part of the species, koalas are more than ever in danger. A report from the regional parliament has just been published and the report is final. If the government does not act quickly to protect the species, the koala will die out in New South Wales before 2050.

Drought, deforestation and recent fires explain this possible future extinction. The fires that hit southern Australia in late 2019 were particularly deadly for the species. But global warming also plays a role because it increases these risky situations for koalas.

The report calls for increased funds dedicated to protecting koalas and developing policies to reduce global warming.
