A new slaughterhouse concerned. This Wednesday, the prefecture of Mayenne announces that a large coronavirus screening operation has been launched within the company Holvia Porc in Laval. Monday, after two employees of this company were declared positive, 60 tests were carried out directly on site: in the end, 28 cases were detected.

This Wednesday, a second series of tests was conducted and this time involved 150 employees, working in particular in the cutting workshops. Pending the results, the management of Holvia Porc “temporarily interrupted the activity of its units, at least until July 3 inclusive. Holvia Pork also decided to carry out a complete "crawl space" during this suspension, "says the prefecture.

Several slaughterhouses already concerned

The state of health of sick people has not been specified. "The work of identifying contact subjects at risk and contamination chains is underway," said the prefecture.

According to an American study published in May, slaughterhouse workers are more exposed to the epidemic than other professions. In France, several outbreaks have occurred in Vendée, in the Loiret, or in Brittany.
