The episode "Beyond the News" (1/7/2020) discussed the size of the divergence between the visions of Washington and Tehran regarding the crisis between them in light of their positions regarding the extension of the arms embargo on Iran. She asked about the paths that this crisis could take during the coming period, in light of the data that surrounds it now.

Rouhani - whose statements were devoted to an offensive strategy regarding his country's position on the agreement - stressed that the behavior of the United States is what will determine whether his country takes what he called strict measures or returns to abide by all pledges.

The chief researcher at the Middle East Institute, Kenneth Kotzman, said that Iran is working to accelerate the process of uranium enrichment, and therefore there is a lot of speculation about Iran stopping to cooperate with the nuclear inspectors completely.

Kotzman warned that if the joint action plan collapses, Iran may withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty and may reach high levels of uranium enrichment.

On the other hand, the former Iranian diplomat, Hadi Afqihi, said that his country has presented a heavy price in the nuclear file and commitment to all that it signed in the nuclear agreement with the major powers.

Afqihi added that despite Iran's suspension of a number of provisions of the nuclear agreement, it will not go to producing a nuclear bomb, as is reported by the Israeli media.

Exorbitant price

For his part, Omani writer and political analyst Salem Al-Jahri considered that the West, especially the United States, would pay the price of delay in containing Iran during the past years, and not resolving the differences over the nuclear agreement.

Al-Jhouri considered that the political, diplomatic and military maneuvering of Iran is limited and does not affect the United States, which the whole world tried to return to the nuclear agreement after it withdrew from it.

And the Omani writer considered that the United States besieged Iran economically, especially with regard to exporting oil, as well as in importing military and electronic technologies from abroad, warning of the region igniting in the event of a collision between the United States and Iran.

Al-Jahouri confirmed that the administration of US President Donald Trump will not seek to achieve any agreement with Tehran during the coming period until the end of the American presidential elections.
