• Covid-19.Tristán Ulloa is discharged after being hospitalized for coronavirus

Two months ago, Tristan Ulloa became an unintended viral phenomenon as one of the known faces affected by Covid-19. Because after receiving the hospital discharge, his emotional message of thanks to the health workers for their work and to their followers for their encouragement exceeded 80,000 views on Instagram. Fully recovered, the actor wants to turn the page. In fact, this same week he has returned to work to prepare the filming of the TVE series La Caza. Tramuntana . And on Thursday, June 2, he returns to television, this time from all over the planet through Netflix, with a "stimulating" project: The Warrior Nun.

"I really want to do funny, crazy and a little crazy things, which does not mean that I do anything," Ulloa tells EL MUNDO about the adaptation of the namesake manga by Ben Dunn about a secret military order operating in the service of the Church. Catholic. "Also, this is a genre that is rarely discussed in our country, but it has all the tools to work," adds a mix of action, fantasy and youth drama.

The bizarre premise: after passing away, Ava, a 19-year-old orphan, wakes up in a morgue in Andalusia with superpowers and a divine artifact inserted in her back. Because the series has been recorded in various locations in Malaga, including Antequera, Ronda or Marbella . Soon the young woman discovers that she belongs to an ancient brotherhood whose mission is to fight against the demons of Earth.

Ulloa plays Father Vincent , spiritual and strategic leader of the Order of the Cruciform Sword who in his divine mission will try to redeem his own sins. “He is described as an expert in making mistakes, but no more and no less than other people. And I believe that one learns more from failures than from successes. You learn to get up and be stronger, "says Ulloa about his last priest on the screen.

"The other day I was counting the cures that I have done with a friend and a few of them came out", he comments with amusement on Father Albert in La catedral del mar (2018) or Abel in Que se muense los feos (2000). « I am not a believer, I am totally agnostic. But here religion is simply the framework in which history is situated, which is fiction and entertainment . It does not intend to teach morals, or Catholicism, or anything. In fact, it is treated with a lot of respect, there is no irreverence, but there is daring, and perhaps this terrain is trodden in a different and more casual way, "says the actor.

At 50 years old, Ulloa confesses that she feels "like another teenager" surrounded by these young warrior nuns, who face the forces of evil using martial arts or shotguns to the rhythm of Rosalía. "I have never worked in a production like this and it is very stimulating for me to work with people younger than me, with so much desire and so much talent, each one from a different country," says Alba Baptista , a British woman of Spanish-Colombian descent. Lorena Andrea , the American-Jamaican Toya Turner , the Finnish interpreter of Chinese origin Kristina Tonteri-Young or the Spanish Olivia Delcán .

Starting with the Narcos series (2017), also from Netflix, and following Snatch (2018) or the movie Terminator: Dark Destiny (2019), in recent years Ulloa's international presence has been growing . «Being in those productions, maybe it has its correlation. I attribute it more to the people behind working, to the casting directors who at one point called you, it could not be and they said, later I am counting on you. This is a long-distance race and in the end it all comes back », says the actor, who had to pass a test in which he competed with actors from all over the world to work on The Warrior Nun . "These products work like this, they are something global and, when the flute plays and they choose you, you feel privileged to be in that league," he adds.

I face the return with great caution. Right now I'm immune, but no one signs this to be permanent

Next for Ulloa will be the second part of La Caza, Monteperdido, subtitled this time Tramuntana because the thriller moves from the Pyrenees to the Balearic Islands. «We were in Mallorca shooting and after two weeks we had to cut due to the coronavirus. It was not certain that it would be retaken and Televisión Española was good at approving the project, rewriting it and adapting it to new circumstances, ”in which they will avoid, for example, filming with much figuration. "We are already working on pre-production in Madrid, the team travels to Mallorca this weekend and I will join next week," he says, underlining the strict security measures that the filming will adopt in the new normal.

«I am already fully recovered. But I face the return with great caution. Right now I have antibodies and I am immune, but nobody signs that this is permanent, "explains the actor, who already suffered from Influenza A a decade ago. "I sign up for all of them," he sarcastically concedes. “You have the immune system you have and I am the perfect candidate to get it all. It also happens to me when I travel, for example, to the tropics, "he says.

Speaking of the possible lessons from the coronavirus, Ulloa believes that this disease "has put us all under the same standard." And he concludes saying: «In these situations it is where you can see who is leaning on the shoulder and who is not , who is willing to work for the common good and who only thinks about his own. We have all shown ourselves quite how we are, for better or for worse. But it seems that we have forgotten everything, that everything has happened and that we are back on track. "
