The American composer Johnny Mandel, who wrote the theme song of M * A * S * H , has died at the age of 94.
It is not known where Mandel, who won an Oscar and a Grammy Award, died.
His close friend, musician Michael Feinstein, shared the death of the composer via Facebook. "The world will never be the same again without its dry humor, wit and outlook on life. He was truly like no one and no one could write or arrange like he did," said Feinstein.
Singer Michael Bublé responded via Twitter to Mandel's death. "He was a genius and one of my favorite writers, arrangers and personalities."
Born in New York, Mandel was considered one of the greatest arrangers of the second half of the twentieth century. He has worked with Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Michael Jackson and Tony Bennett, among others, and has made film scores for more than thirty films. For The Shadow of Your Smile , from the soundtrack of The Sandpiper , he received an Oscar and a Grammy Award.
I was so sad to learn that a hero of mine, Johnny Mandel, passed away. He was a genius and one of my favorite writers, arrangers, and personalities. ❤️Avatar
