  • After the violence in the Bindweeds, the public prosecutor, in collaboration with the prefect and the mayor, is accelerating the establishment of a local “narcotic” crime treatment group (GLTD).
  • This tool allows the sharing of information on drug trafficking.

The violence of early June in the Liserons district accelerated the deployment of a new tool in the fight against drug trafficking in Nice. And it is committed against "this scourge" that the public prosecutor, accompanied by the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes and the mayor, announced the launch of a local group for the treatment of "stupefying" delinquency (GLTD).

The GLTD has four main objectives: the exchange and sharing of information, traffic tracing and judicial action. All with the collaboration of the police, gendarmerie, customs, financial administration and social landlords.

"To respond to the concerns of the population"

This system, also tested in Nantes and more recently Dijon, is thematic, focused on narcotics and not geographic. "Its main purpose is to be in Nice, but I wanted to involve the gendarmerie because the traffickers do not stop in Nice," explains the public prosecutor, Xavier Bonhomme.

"When I arrived in Nice, I was alerted by the need to start actions in neighborhoods of Nice faced with drug trafficking that generate insecurity," he explains. Same story with Christian Estrosi who evokes the "concerns of the population" in "certain neighborhoods such as Liserons, Ariane, Las Planas, Moulins, René Cassin or even rue Trachel".

This device should also open the way to a "hardening of the criminalization of drug users", confirms the public prosecutor at the press point on Tuesday.
