  • Plus belle la Vve made a comeback on France 3 on Monday, June 29.
  • Usually anchored in French news, the series will have to move away from it because of the Covid-19 crisis.

This time, that's it, all the daily soap operas are back on the air. After A so great sun and Tomorrow belongs to us , the inhabitants of the Mistral resumed the normal course of their life after eight (long) weeks of interruption. The return of Plus belle la vie did not attract crowds with 2.64 million viewers connected to their stations this Monday evening, a score down significantly from the level of April.

One of the trademarks of Plus belle la vie is to stick as close as possible to the news. Even if, by the greatest chance, the writers had proposed an intrigue around the coronavirus long before there is talk of Covid-19 in the world, Plus belle la vie will move away from the reality of viewers for some time , for both technical and artistic reasons.

In parallel with the protagonists' love and police stories, the series continued its intrigue around the municipal elections, which began in early March. But if the second round was canceled in France, everything could go as planned in the alternative reality of the soap. Three months ago, France 3 therefore disseminated the final results of the ballot in Marseille, offering the character of Samia Nassri the place of deputy mayor. For the first time in its history, the series is therefore out of step with the news.

Faced with the health crisis, the writers had to adapt to write new scenes or modify some, impossible to shoot while respecting government instructions. “To stick to reality with a view to returning to the air in late June, we should have written in early April. But on what basis? There was a risk of lag. It would have been the worst for the series, "said Géraldine Gendre, producer of Plus belle la vie , to our colleagues at Puremédias .

However, it is not excluded that the effects of the Covid-19 will be integrated into the series in the coming months. For now, "the public wanted to find their characters and their stories," says Géraldine Gendre, who also explains that there will be "references to the economic and social consequences of the crisis in a second time. »Will Le Céleste be deserted by its tourists? Will the Mistral bar see a drop in attendance? That the characters in the series will still enjoy a good few months of the good life, this should not last.
