World Cultural Heritage No selection of domestic candidates this year Japan Agency for Cultural Affairs New Corona June 30 4:41

Due to the new coronavirus, the Agency for Cultural Affairs has decided to postpone the selection of domestic nomination candidates for World Cultural Heritage this year.

Due to the influence of the new coronavirus, the World Heritage Committee, which was scheduled to be held in China, was postponed.

As a result, it is no longer possible to secure the deliberation time and preparation period for the selection of domestic recommendation candidates for World Cultural Heritage, so the Agency for Cultural Affairs has decided to postpone this year's selection.

This year, the “Sado mine heritage group centered on gold” in Niigata Prefecture was the most promising candidate for domestic recommendation of world cultural heritage this year.

The Agency for Cultural Affairs said, "We will keep an eye on future trends of the World Heritage Committee and work toward the selection of candidates from next year onwards."
