Former President of France Télévisions Patrick de Carolis was elected Sunday in Arles, his hometown, previously run by a Communist mayor since 2001. De Carolis presented himself without a label but positioned himself in the center.

Patrick de Carolis is the new mayor of Arles. For a little more than 48% of participation, he was elected with more than 57% of the votes expressed with his list "For the great Arles", in front of the communist candidate Nicolas Koukas, appointed successor of the outgoing mayor. The former CEO of France Télévisions, presented himself without a label but positioned himself in the center. The city of Arles was held since 2001 by the PCF. The candidate LR Cyril Juglaret had decided to withdraw from the race in favor of Patrick de Carolis, to block the left during the second round of the elections.

Patrick de Carolis created and presented the magazine Roots and Wings until 2005, when he took over the reins of the group until 2010. A presidency that will bring him big trouble with the law: Patrick de Carolis has was convicted of "favoritism" and "the crime of concealing favoritism" in the Bygmalion case. The court had imposed a suspended sentence of five months in prison and a fine of 25,000 euros.
