May 2, 2020 was World Tuna Day. And on June 8, 2020, it was World Oceans Day.

The opportunity to address the question of the oceans, through the major role played by tuna in the global trade in seafood. Because the health of tuna stocks is an important indicator of the health of the oceans.

In addition, these fish play a major role in sustainable development, food security, economic opportunities and livelihoods for people around the world. To situate the issues, some figures: more than 8% of world trade in seafood products and generating $ 42 billion per year, 7 million tonnes caught each year, 20% of the market value of all marine capture fisheries and more than 8% of world production of seafood.

The question is crucial. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) notes that market demand for tuna remains high while stocks of these fish are overexploited. This is why more than 96 countries are involved in the conservation and management of tuna.
