Meeting place after blackout due to typhoon Use solar power as emergency power source Katsuura, Chiba June 28, 14:58

At typhoon No. 15 last year, a demonstration experiment was conducted at a meeting place in Katsuura City, Chiba Prefecture, where blackouts continued for almost a week to see if the electricity from a solar power plant could be used as an emergency power source.

The Ichinogawa meeting place, located in the mountains of Katsuura City, is a place where people who voluntarily evacuate in the event of a disaster gather, but the Typhoon No. 15 in September last year caused a blackout for almost a week.

For this reason, we were asked to cooperate with the owners of nearby solar power plants to supply it as an emergency power source, and the first experiment was conducted on the 28th.

In the experiment, after switching the equipment of the solar power plant to an operation mode that can use electricity even during a power failure, an extension cord was connected from the equipment to the meeting place for approximately 300 meters.

Unfortunately on August 28, the amount of electricity generated was less than usual due to rain, but it was working properly when the switches for the cell phone charger, TV, and fan in the meeting room were turned on.

At this meeting place, we also checked the charging status by providing a storage battery with a size of 30 cm and a weight of 10 kg for the night when solar power generation cannot be used.

"I was able to confirm that the necessary equipment could be used even though the weather was rainy," said Chairman Ichise of the Ichinokawa Voluntary Disaster Prevention Association. Because I do not know when a disaster will occur, such as the Thursday earthquake, photovoltaic power generation It is a great relief for the community to be able to use in an emergency."
