Four suspects were arrested. This Friday, three suspects, including two minors 15 and 17 years old, were charged in the investigation into the fire of a school in a poor area of ​​Béziers on Halloween night, announced the prosecutor of the Republic.

According to a press release from the prosecutor Raphaël Balland, the investigating judge decided to indict them "after having carried out their interrogation, in particular of the heads of destruction in an organized band of the property of others by a means dangerous for people, participation to an association of criminals with a view to the preparation of a crime, ambush in a meeting with the aim of committing violence with the use or threat of a weapon and violence against any person holding public authority ”.

Two classes had been totally destroyed

The fire at the Tamaris school, located in the La Devèze district, completely destroyed two classrooms and severely damaged twelve others. During the intervention of the Béziers firefighters, a fire soldier had also been seriously injured in the back while fighting against the flames.

The youngest suspect, 15 years old and who now lives in the Paris region, was placed under judicial supervision with in particular "the ban on appearing in the Hérault" and the obligation of follow-up by the judicial protection of youth (PJJ).

They deny having participated directly in the fires

The 17-year-old and 19-year-old were taken into custody. Another 19-year-old young adult, also arrested on Wednesday, was released after his police custody. “All of them disputed having directly participated in the fires. Only the 15-year-old boy admitted to throwing a stone at the police who came to secure the fire brigade's intervention, "said the prosecutor.

"The investigating magistrate is continuing his investigations, which should take several more months," he added.
