This Friday, June 26, Madagascar celebrates the 60th anniversary of its independence. One of the figures that marked this independence was that of the first Madagascan president Philibert Tsiranana. Tsiranana chooses an independence which preserves strong links with the former colonial power, France. Why this “French-African bet” and what will be the consequences?
