France is continuing its policy of large-scale tests. Olivier Véran announced this Thursday a campaign of virological tests (the cotton swab test, or swab) "very large" to detect possible foci of contamination. Thirty municipalities of Ile-de-France should benefit in particular, said the Minister of Health.

“Nearly 1.3 million people living in thirty communes of Ile de France will thus receive“ vouchers ”from Health Insurance offering them to go for a virological test in any public or private laboratory, even if they have no symptoms, ”he explains in an interview with Le Monde . The objective is "to identify possible dormant clusters".

If the test is successful, it will be extended

This “very large-scale campaign aimed at all residents” will target “territories near identified clusters where (…) there is a viral reservoir, with asymptomatic people, who can transmit the virus without know, ”he says. “We are for the moment in the experimental stage to see if this corresponds to a wish of the French. This experiment could then be extended to other regions ”of France, adds Olivier Véran.

Four regions (Ile de France, Grand-Est, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Hauts-de-France) account for 74% of patients hospitalized in intensive care because of Covid-19. Only 11 additional deaths were reported Wednesday by the Directorate General of Health (DGS).

The Minister of Health believes that "the peak of March-April is behind us but we are not done with the virus". "We must avoid large gatherings and risky behavior," he insists, while the Fête de la musique on Sunday was marked by scenes of collective jubilation without barrier gestures or masks.
