It was initially due to open in 2018, then in September 2019. A new, updated version of the calendar for the Cannes university campus had postponed the arrival of the first students to February 2020, with a "real" return in September.
The Covid-19 crisis turned these plans upside down again. “The construction site was completely interrupted between the beginning of March and April 27. And since it took over, it can only accommodate 30 workers simultaneously, against 120 before the epidemic, "said Thomas Onzon, director general of technical services at the city of Cannes.
End of works for October
The mayor and the Côte d'Azur university have therefore revised their calculations: the delivery of the building is now only possible for January 2021, at best, "and if there is no second wave" from Covid- 19. “The end of the works is scheduled for the end of October. We must then wait for the safety commission and the layout of the premises to pass through, ”points out the manager.
What about students, from September? Those training already present in Cannes will be patient in their current premises, in particular the IUT Technical marketing.
For the 37 other new diplomas "unique in France" and "around creative writing and image professions", alternatives are being researched. "For a few months, these students will be hosted in other premises that we are in the process of identifying with the city," explains Marc Dalloz, vice-president of the university's board of directors. And they will then move in, as soon as possible, to the new campus, in 2021. ”Ultimately, a thousand young people will be trained there each year.
