By marking Saturday June 20 with Crystal Palace's victory in Bournemouth (2-0), Jordan Ayew put his name in the annals of the Premier League. With 25 goals, he is the new top Ghanaian striker in the history of the championship. He is ahead of Anthony Yeboah and his own brother André.

Crystal Palace can still dream of a European qualification at the end of the season. Bolstered by three consecutive successes before the Premier League shutdown in March, the London club restarted well on Saturday June 20 with a fourth victory on day 30. On the field of Bournemouth, the Eagles won without trembling (2-0). They are 9th in the standings with 42 points, just five behind 5th place occupied by Manchester United. And Jordan Ayew particularly distinguished himself at Vitality Stadium.

He overtakes Anthony Yeboah in his best Premier League season

While his team was already leading 1-0, the Ghanaian made the break with an impeccable recovery from the right foot in the 23rd minute. It is the 9th personal goal for the son of Abedi Pelé this season in the Premier League. He thus consolidates his status as top scorer of Crystal Palace, far ahead of the Serbian Luka Milivojevic (author of the first goal against Bournemouth), the Dutchman Patrick van Aanholt and the Ivorian Wilfried Zaha, who all have 3 goals in this 2019-2020 fiscal year . It also confirms that this 2019-2020 season is its best since playing in England; in 2015-2016 with Aston Villa and in 2017-2018 with Swansea, he stopped at 7 achievements.

And above all, Jordan Ayew goes a step further: with 25 goals in the Premier League, he is the new top Ghanaian striker in the history of the English league. He is one unit ahead of former record holder Anthony Yeboah. And on the third step of the podium, we find the other Ayew brother, André, with 21 goals.

Note, however, that Anthony Yeboah scored his 24 goals in 47 games with Leeds United (1994-1995 and 1995-1996, 12 goals each time; no goals in 1996-1997), and that André Ayew reached 21 goals in 89 games with Swansea and West Ham. Jordan Ayew has 129 appearances.

The 27th most prolific African ... and time to climb the hierarchy again

Jordan Ayew, 28, is also advancing in the hierarchy of the best African scorers in the Premier League. Just before the confinement in mid-March, he had invited himself into the Top 30 of the most prolific attackers on the African continent; he is now a little higher with his 25 goals. The podium - Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Adebayor and Yakubu Aiyegbeni - is still far, certainly.

The Black Stars striker still appears in 27th place, equaling the total of Beninese Stéphane Sessegnon. The Congolese Lomana Lua Lua (24 goals) and the Burundian Saido Berahino (23 goals) are exceeded. Next players to surpass for Jordan Ayew: the Nigerian Victor Anichebe and the Zimbabwean Benjani Mwuaruwari, 26 goals each.

The classification of the best African scorers in the Premier League (as of June 21, 2020)
