Singer Mel B - Matrix Media / Starface

It was over 20 years ago, but Mel B still remembers it very well. At the height of the glory of the Spice Girls, the singer decided to find a little calm by moving to the countryside. It was in Marlow, Buckinghamshire that she bought her very first house. But as the old Scary Spice revealed to the Sun , she quickly became disillusioned.

“The fact that I buy this house has bothered the whole village. I received not only hate mail, but hate and racist mail, which shocked me. It said "Leave the village, you're not from here, you can't buy something like that ..." ", she remembered.

Regrets

But more was needed to scare Mel B and she quickly found an effective way to take revenge on her racist neighbors. "It made me feel uncomfortable but I still organized beautiful parties there - and putting on a very loud sound, to disturb the village well," said the singer.

Mel B wanted to testify to the racism that she could undergo like other British artists of color such as Leigh-Anne Pinnock of the group Little Mix or Leona Lewis. The Black Lives Matter movement has gained momentum in the United Kingdom and protests have multiplied, marked in particular by the unbolt of the statue of a slave trader in Bristol last week.
