In his press release, Planeta quotes a sentence from the father of Daniel Sempere, the main character in The Shadow of the Wind , the author's best-known novel: “Each book, each volume that you see, has a soul. The soul of the one who wrote it, and the soul of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. This sentence is spoken as the hero discovers the mysterious Forgotten Book Cemetery, a secret, magical and labyrinthine library, around which the whole saga revolves.

The Shadow of the Wind quickly became a huge publishing success, translated into fifty languages ​​and sold to millions of copies worldwide, making a star of its author, who had hitherto devoted himself to children's literature.

Born in Barcelona in 1964, Carlos Ruiz Zafon, educated in a religious institution and graduate in communication, had first made a career in advertising before publishing his first novel at almost 30 years old.
