"A renewed monarchy for a new time". It is what Felipe VI promised when six years ago today he was proclaimed King by the Cortes after a model relay to the front of the Crown that meant a true pact of State between the main political forces of our country: PP and PSOE. So Parliament was not yet so fragmented. He was at the head of the Government, Mariano Rajoy , who today underlines in our pages that this operation represented the renewal of the constitutional pact, in the same spirit that had illuminated the Transition that gave way to our current regime of freedoms. The King Juan Carlos, who had successfully piloted this complicated process, abdicated and gave way to his son at a time when the Crown needed a new push, to recover prestige and to advance in transparency and exemplarity . And all while maintaining its fundamental role at the apex of our institutional system . Because the Monarchy is not an ornamental institution. It is, on the one hand, a symbol of continuity and national unity that guarantees all Spaniards their constitutional rights, and at the same time is the essential arbiter that ensures the proper functioning of institutions.

That double function is being carried out without fault by Don Felipe, with the rectitude and neutrality required of him . In his six years of reign, he has pushed for profound changes in the Crown to fulfill the promise of his proclamation, including the remodeling of the Royal Family and the application of strict transparency standards. It is undoubtedly at the forefront of a "renewed monarchy" . And in a "new time" and very turbulent, in which Felipe VI has faced serious challenges: the first year of political blockade, a coup process in Catalonia -for whose disarticulation his intervention was decisive, something that the independence - or the current pandemic. In these harsh circumstances, the King has exercised his role with remarkable success and great prudence.

The Monarchy is also shaken by various scandals involving Don Juan Carlos. It is worth underlining the energetic reaction of the current King, for whom "non-exemplary conduct" does not fit. But only a fool will escape the fact that the campaign of harassment against the Crown, which includes the bastard attempt to make the son pay for the father's mistakes , seeks to dynamite our current constitutional framework. Because the Monarch is the guarantee of their permanence . And that plan would not be so disturbing if its promoters did not sit in the Council of Ministers today.
