Musician Bruce Springsteen has urged United States President Donald Trump to put on "a damn mask" by criticizing his government's response to the coronavirus pandemic , which has caused nearly 120,000 deaths in the United States.

The Boss , in statements on his radio program From His Home to Yours collected by Esquire, said that the trail of death that the coronavirus is leaving in the country most hit by the pandemic is "national disgrace".

"I had another show set to air this strange and hectic week of this summer, but with more than 100,000 Americans dying in the past few months and the empty and embarrassed response from our leaders, I just got mad ," Springsteen said.

"Those lives," he added, "deserved better than just being awkward statistics for our president's reelection bid."

The New Jersey musician addressed the president directly: "I'm going to start by sending a (message) to the man sitting in the Oval Office. With all due respect, sir, show some consideration and care for your compatriots and your country . Wear a damn mask".

It is not the first time that Springsteen has criticized Trump , since in the past he said that the president had no interest in uniting the country and also that he does not understand the meaning of what it is to be an American.

The president has never worn a mask in public since the start of the pandemic despite the fact that health authorities in the United States recommend it and that there have been cases of coronavirus in the White House.

On a recent visit to a Ford factory, Trump again refused to put it in front of the cameras even though both President of the Automobile Bill Ford and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel were asked to do so.

"He did not want to give the press the pleasure of seeing me" with the mask, Trump said when journalists asked him why he was not wearing it.
