He did not hesitate to act in the middle of the day, including in the presence of the inhabitants. A 53-year-old man was arrested by police in Dax (Landes), for 33 burglaries and five attempts, all committed during the confinement, between mid-March and early May, south of Dax. Judicial information was opened Wednesday by the prosecution.

Contacted by 20 Minutes , the public prosecutor of Dax Rodolphe Jarry, explains that the individual, "very known to the police for numerous burglaries", acted for a month and a half "by opportunity", taking advantage of the Covid-19 crisis to enter homes that he guessed abandoned. "He stole here and there a few dozen euros, jewelry, a digital tablet, sometimes identity papers ... He sometimes went there in the cheek in inhabited houses, and was also surprised several times, explaining while he was looking for his cat or he was there to disinfect in connection with the Covid-19. No violence was committed during his misdeeds.

"He recognized all burglaries without exception"

The prosecutor underlines "the exceptional investigative work of the police" in this case, which, by combining different facts, "went back to him. »It was there that they realized that their suspect was ... imprisoned in Gradignan (Gironde), for similar facts.

“He had just recently been sentenced to Bordeaux. The suspect was then placed in police custody, and "he recognized all of the burglaries without exception," said the prosecutor.
