  • In Nice, violence broke out in the Liserons district. At around 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, shots were fired and three people were injured. Four individuals are currently in police custody in this case.
  • Already on June 11, shots had been heard and a 19-year-old young man had been stabbed. Two people were charged, in particular for aggravated violence.
  • In this context of violence against a backdrop of drug trafficking, residents are worried and feel abandoned.

“My 13 year old child is scared here. He does not go out. The problem is drugs. But even that, it should not be settled with arms, ”exclaims a resident of the Liserons district, in Nice. On June 11, after an argument in the neighborhood, gunshots broke out and a man was injured. Following this brawl, Sunday around 11 p.m., other shots rang out. Three men were taken to the hospital again. A judicial investigation is underway and four people were still in police custody on Tuesday.

To access this district located in the east of Nice, just follow a street, perpendicular to the main road to Turin. A few meters higher, on the left, is the impasse des Liserons. At the entrance of the buildings, on the walls, the price of drugs is listed. On another facade, a little lower, in plain view, the list of license plates to watch.

"We're in Nice though!" ", Says a resident of the bindweeds. "I've been living here for seventeen years and the traffic has been there for seventeen years," said another, annoyed by the situation. Some do not even dare to walk on foot in this area yet located at the entrance of the district, and constantly take the car.

"We are left to our own devices"

"I want the police to stay there all the time. We are left abandoned, ”regrets a resident, while at 1 pm on Tuesday, no police officer is seen around. The same goes for Kira, who has lived in the neighborhood for over ten years, with her children and her husband. “Today, it exploded, it started from an argument. But we are left to our own devices, we want security, ”she exclaims, while a helicopter has been roaring over the neighborhood for a few minutes.

Now that's enough ! It's been 10 months that I have been asking for additional resources from Bindweeds. This morning, I spoke with the Minister of the Interior @CCastaner and I asked him to set up a CRS company permanently present in the neighborhood. # Nice06 pic.twitter.com/nr0lbuoQgm

On Monday, the mayor, Christian Estrosi, announced that CRS would be permanently present at the Bindweeds. For its part, the prefecture had declared a strengthening of security, with the presence of gendarmes and members of the National Police.

"The real problem is poverty"

"The problem is not a community one, the problem is that of inhabitants versus dealers," insists Shamil, a young man of Chechen origin. The latter, with some of his relatives, decided to speak, in another district, in Saint-Charles, a place which has experienced recent tensions. They present themselves as Franco-Chechens from Nice and spokespersons for the neighborhoods affected by the violence. They wish to dissociate the events of Nice from those of Dijon. "It's pure chance," says Shamil.

“We are all united here, we play together. The real problem is poverty, ”adds a 24-year-old young Franco-Moroccan, passing through Saint-Charles, the neighborhood where his mother lives. “My son, he has already been asked to work as a lookout. He refused, but we are afraid that the children will go towards easy money ”, worries another resident of Liserons, who informs us that young people are on the lookout for 100 euros a day.
