If there is a field in Spain that is unavailable to consensus, that is unfortunately the educational one. Which is precisely the one that should raise a higher level of vision, because the future of a country in the global knowledge economy will increasingly be determined by the added value provided by the educational level of its population. Every time a socialist government comes to power, it rushes to repeal the educational law previously approved by the PP , although it has barely started. And there is Isabel Celaá, whose reform seems inspired by a single principle: retracing everything that has been done instead of looking for a shared base on which to build an educational horizon capable of surviving a legislature.

If José Ignacio Wert tried to promote excellence despite the errors and dysfunctions of the LOE, Celaá has taken advantage of the new pedagogism that disregards the culture of effort and betrays the progressive role of teaching as a social elevator. His project supposes a sectarian attack on concerted education -developed by the governments of Felipe González- by means of eliminating the requirement of social demand that protects the constitutional right of parents to freedom of education for their children. It is not for the State to restrict the educational offer for stale ideological reasons. Nor is it a good idea to sacrifice the requirement for the sake of overprotection , since the labor market will finally take care of the screening that the school does not do. Thus, the Celaá law provides that for the first time the baccalaureate degree can be obtained with a suspension, and the possibility of repeating the course as much as possible is hindered. The fruit of this reduction in price is the opposite of cohesion and progress: the social gap will widen between students whose parents can afford a quality private school and those condemned to educate in less academic and more conditioned public centers. politician.

The norm, likewise, neglects the Spanish language that every citizen has the duty to know. In order to win the support of the separatists, all responsibility is transferred to the autonomies, who will be responsible for setting the number of hours in Spanish. Which, in the communities governed by nationalism, is equivalent to entrusting the henhouse to the care of the fox and shielding the immersion. For the rest, Celaá is pending to reassure parents with children in need of special education , whose development will be truncated if the offer is reduced. To round off the sectarian tic, religion loses weight in favor of a subject of ethical values to which nothing would have to be objected were it not for the fact that Podemos hopes to sneak into the matter its radical identity obsessions .

In this way it will be the students - and society, in the long run - who will return to pay the high price of the left's obsession with social engineering.
