Since the coronavirus crisis erupted, the Government seems committed to treating companies as if they were an obstacle and not the engine of productive activity. This has been evident in the contempt for the employers' demands, in the lack of determination when it comes to rescuing the self-employed and SMEs and in the irresponsible ambiguity in core issues such as the labor framework. Unlike Italy, where efforts are focused on strengthening competitiveness with the active participation of businessmen, in Spain the reconstruction commission is limited to the parliamentary sphere. That is why the summit promoted by the CEOE to articulate the message of the entrepreneurs is timely and successful, without which it would be impossible to face the economic and social crisis that threatens to turn the recession into a depression.

It should be underlined that a good part of the large companies did not hesitate, at the worst moment of the pandemic, to activate their logistical capacity in a completely disinterested way nor to mobilize resources to attend the social emergency among the most vulnerable families. All this shows the degree of commitment to social responsibility in the Spanish company. That said, the government cannot ignore the clamor of the private sector any longer. Instead of embracing the crazy theses of Podemos, which could lead to the repeal of the labor reform, Sánchez must bet on balance and concerted action . The path of stability involves not shooting up the deficit, injecting liquidity and applying tax breaks, especially in sectors as badly hit as the automotive and tourism sectors. The plan to help the automobile industry - which includes 250 million euros in direct aid and tax exemptions - and the pilot program for the revival of tourism in the Balearic Islands, although they are late, are going in the right direction. But Sánchez seems determined to extend the ERTE only until September, despite the fact that the employers asked to extend them until the end of the year.

Pablo Isla, president of Inditex, asked yesterday at the CEOE's act "to flee from dogmatism" and to agree on all measures with businessmen. Juan Roig, president of Mercadona, warned of the severity of the crisis and asked to see businessmen as "generators of wealth". A coalition executive with the extreme left scares Brussels and the markets. Hence Moncloa's extraordinary difficulty in instilling confidence. However, there is no other way to face the crisis with guarantees than moderation, consensus and the ability to establish certainties . The opposite of what the government has done so far, which is confident of the recovery to the EU and the increase in fiscal pressure.
