A drastic effect. With the coronavirus crisis, containment and then progressive deconfinement, road deaths were much less in March, April and May 2020 compared to 2019. Indeed, the number of people killed on the roads fell by 15 , 6% in May, month of the first phase of deconfinement in mainland France, according to figures from Road Safety published Monday.

55% fewer deaths in April

In detail, 205 people died on the roads, 38 less than a year earlier (243). The months of March and April, during which the French were confined, were marked by a spectacular decline with 39.6% of people died less in March and 55.8% in April.
