Dozens of police gathered on Saturday evening around midnight in front of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris with cars and beacons to express their dissatisfaction once again after Christophe Castaner's announcements.

This surprise demonstration, at the call of the Paris night ferry, according to one of the participants, and during which the police intoned the Marseillaise and threw handcuffs to the ground, took place at the end of a new day of demonstrations against police violence and the day before an address by President Emmanuel Macron.

"We expected the minister to give a gesture of support and we have the impression that he is letting go of the police," explained a police officer in uniform. "My colleagues felt let go, abandoned by their minister responsible," added to Brut Yoann Maras, Union steward Alliance who was on site.

"We will have to expect the movement to gain momentum"

Friday, it was the police unions who went down the Champs-Elysées to express their anger and demand to be received by Emmanuel Macron. "If the President of the Republic does not reaffirm full support for the national police (…), we must expect the movement to gain momentum with actions and demonstrations by the police," according to Yoann Maras.

The Minister of the Interior Christophe Castaner, received Friday the police unions very reassembled since his announcements Monday, in particular on the end of the use of the technique of arrest known as “of strangulation”. Before unionists, Christophe Castaner had also recognized "bullshit", "a blunder" of language when he announced Monday the suspension of any official in the event of "proven suspicion" of racism according to unionists.

"There is a break created by the Minister of the Interior, he will have to regain the confidence of his police. This will have to go through strong speeches and guarantees but changing the Minister of the Interior, if we stick to the same doctrine, it will not advance the debate, "said Yoann Maras. On Saturday, thousands of people demonstrated in France against police violence.
