Ferdia Shaw in Kenneth Branagh's "Artemis Fowl" - Disney +

  • "Artemis Fowl" has many things in common with the "Harry Potter" saga.
  • Young charismatic heroes live magical and hectic adventures there.
  • British director Kenneth Branagh signs a first part rich in action and magic.
  • It seems obvious that the film will have one (or more) sequel.

Harry Potter just has to behave! Artemis Fowl will overshadow the Hogwarts wizard. This young hero, created by Eoin Colfer in a series of novels published by Gallimard Jeunesse, is well on his way to becoming a star on the screen, under the magic wand of director Kenneth Branagh.

Initially scheduled to be discovered indoors, this new hero finally makes his debut for world release on the Disney + streaming platform from June 12.

And 20 Minutes take the bets to see him very quickly replace the magician of JK Rowling in the hearts of Harry Potter fans.

Artemis is a bad guy (but nice too)

Artemis Fowl, played by Ferdia Shaw, is the mixture of a juvenile Fantomas with a peachy complexion and Gru (the hero of Me, ugly and mean ) but without his Minions. Coming from a family of criminals, he decided to recover his dad (Colin Farrell), kidnapped by fairies. Despite an elastic morality, this well-groomed pre-teen is still very cute, the story being intended for young audiences.

Artemis is well surrounded

When the bad guy is also the good guy, you have to find him sidekicks and opponents to match him. An intrepid little winged fairy (cute Lara McDonnell), a giant who takes herself for a dwarf (Josh Gad in eccentric mode) and an authoritarian enchantress (Judi Dench with pointy ears) go to heart to compose fanciful characters . Everything is planned so that the viewer is happy to see them again in other stories.

Artemis lives in an original world

Eoin Colfer has digested various influences to create a world unlike any other. There is less violent Kingsman and  Men in Black without extraterrestrials in this entertainment designed to amuse and gently shiver. Action and spy film, magical comedy and family story, there is something for all tastes and for all ages. A mix of well-balanced genres, enhanced by dynamic staging, with special effects and great feelings… What does that remind you of? Harry Potter, of course!

Artemis knows he has a future

It is very quickly clear that Artemis Fowl will be back on the screen. Kenneth Branagh and screenwriters open many doors that make viewers want to rush in to find out more about the hero and his loved ones. As there are already eight novels featuring the little genius of Evil, we do not need a crystal ball to say that we should see him soon on the screen. We wish him the same success and the same longevity as Harry Potter.
