  • The National School of Architecture of Saint-Etienne has been singled out by the Representative Council of Black Associations (Cran) since Monday for the behavior of some of its students.
  • The director of the ENSASE tries to deflate the controversy, this Thursday in Le Progrès , by evoking "inadmissible racist acts" during a student party dating from 2019.

The national higher school of architecture of Saint-Etienne (ENSASE) has been in the sights of the Representative Council of Black Associations (Cran) since Monday. Are involved several photos and videos circulating recently on social networks, with in particular pupils of this school wearing an outfit of the Ku Klux Klan or making up their faces in black. “Several whistleblowers have informed us of infamous behavior within this renowned establishment, points Ghyslain Vedeux, president of Le Cran. We immediately supported the victims who contacted us in the face of repeated racist acts. "

Le Cran, which announces that it has seized the Defender of Rights in the context of this case, demands in particular “the immediate and immediate expulsion of the perpetrators of these racist acts” as well as “the dismissal of the administrative staff from the bodies which did not react to these racist acts, however, several times reported ”.

"We have an educational responsibility"

Director of the ENSASE (600 students), Jacques Porte decided to react to these accusations, this Thursday in Le Progrès . This indicates that the facts mentioned only date back to an evening that took place in February 2019 in the Stéphane school. "A student did a blackface well and we took this matter very seriously," he explains. These racist acts are unacceptable. The director claims to have condemned these acts by email in 2019 and does not mention other episodes of racism in connection with the ENSASE.

A charter for equality and the fight against discrimination has since been drawn up in October 2019 by the student association organizing the school's parties. "The student concerned was summoned with a strict call to order", also specifies Jacques Porte, who announces the establishment of an exceptional board of directors "to progress on these questions of freedom and equality" . "We have an educational responsibility in the face of these attitudes of racism," he concludes.
