Golfech nuclear power plant on the banks of the Garonne, at the border of the Gers and 100 km from Toulouse - Alexandre GELEBART / 20MINUTES

The incident, one more, is of level 1 on a gravity scale which counts 7. It occurred on June 5 at the nuclear power station of Golfech, in Tarn-et-Garonne, and was declared Wednesday June 10 at ASN, the nuclear “gendarme”.

It is a leak on a tap "located on the water sampling circuit used to monitor the radiochemical parameters" which is at the origin of a release of vapor, of which EDF recognizes "the late detection". The incident took place in a building in the nuclear auxiliary building of the Golfech No. 1 reactor on a water sampling circuit which had just been put back into service a few hours earlier.

"No consequences"

"This event had no consequence on the safety of the installations, on the safety of the responders, or on the environment", specifies however the operator.

This event comes a few months after ASN publicly pinned down the plant for a lack of rigor in the follow-up of its incidents. The site, inspected on a large scale by ASN in the fall of 2019, must be inspected again in 2022.

The two Golfech reactors supply half of the electricity consumed in the Occitanie region.
