The data concerning the Ehpad and other establishments or social or medico-social services (ESMS) were updated Monday for the first time since June 2: according to the last assessment, France counts 10.384 deaths of residents in ESMS (against 10.350 last Monday ).

Over 406,000 dead worldwide

The new coronavirus pandemic has killed at least 406,466 people worldwide since its onset in December in China. More than 7,130,550 cases of infection have been officially diagnosed in 196 countries and territories since the start of the epidemic, of which at least 3,124,800 are now considered cured.

The United States, which recorded its first death linked to the coronavirus in early February, is the country most affected in terms of number of deaths and cases, with 111,007 deaths for 1,961,185 cases. At least 518,522 people were declared cured.

After the United States, the most affected countries are the United Kingdom with 40,597 deaths for 287,399 cases, Brazil with 37,134 deaths (707,412 cases), Italy with 33,964 deaths (235,278 cases), and France with 29,209 deaths (191,185 cases). China (excluding the territories of Hong Kong and Macao), where the epidemic began in late December, officially counted a total of 83,043 cases (three new between Monday and Tuesday), including 4,634 deaths and 78,351 cures.

Brazil is therefore now the third country in the world with the most deaths from coronavirus. Specialists believe, however, that the official figures are largely underestimated: the size of the country, the difficulty of screening in the Amazon or even in the favelas make the epidemic difficult to follow.
