Devil's Tower, Wyoming. - FRILET

A huge block of stone almost 400 meters high, with a name not very engaging. This natural strangeness is the Devils Tower , or Tower of the Devil, a monolith visible in the state of Wyoming, in the United States. About 65 million years old, the site overlooks vast meadows popular with hikers, who may come across bison and prairie dogs.

Also a place of climbing, the Devil's Tower was the first national monument in the country, in 1906. But especially attracted the attention of the general public after having served as a backdrop for the film Meetings of the 3rd type , by Steven Spielberg, in 1977 The problem is that the Devil's Tower is not really the Devil's Tower. Because according to the Amerindians of the region, this place, considered sacred, would in reality be "the Shelter of the Bear". And the fight to give it back its original name has not yet been won.
