Notre-Dame de Paris: This is what dismantling the scaffolding looks like - 20 Minutes

It had not broken, but was deformed during the fire of April 15, 2019. The dismantling of the scaffolding installed for the restoration of the spire of Notre-Dame de Paris began on Monday.

This Tuesday, it was the rope access technicians who came on the scene. They began to cut the molten metal tubes one on top of the other, which were evacuated using a yellow crane 80 meters high. Half of the 40,000 pieces of this scaffolding, weighing 200 tonnes, are indeed more than 40 meters high.

The site, put on hold during confinement due to the coronavirus crisis, resumed gradually in late April. The scaffolding was first "consolidated and then surrounded by metal beams on three levels in order to stabilize it and prevent any risk of collapse", according to the public establishment responsible for the restoration of the cathedral. Then, a second scaffolding was put in place. The dismantling of the scaffolding must take place throughout the summer.
