The team, collateral victim of the coronavirus pandemic? After the sudden interruption of sports competitions, daily sales fell by more than 60%. As with all press titles, L'Equipe suffers a drop in advertising revenue, here by 70%. The daily expects a deficit of 16 million euros for the year 2020. A sad score that forces the title to take action. The draft collective performance agreement, which should allow  L'Équipe to weather the economic crisis, was presented on Monday.

The general resumption of sport, not expected before August, suggests the worst. To the health crisis is added that of distribution. After the judicial recovery of Presstalis and the judicial liquidation of the SAD, L'Equipe is today only distributed over 80% of the territory.

The Team is thus faced with a drop in revenues from paper expected in 2023, without having had the time to accelerate its transformation into digital pay. Despite a dense sporting calendar (with in particular in 2021, the Olympic Games in Tokyo and a Euro in football, in 2022, a Football World Cup and the Winter Olympics, in 2023, a Rugby World Cup in France) , the forecasts for 2021 and 2022 would fluctuate between 10 and 20 million euros in operating loss.

Reduction in RTT and 10% less salary

Management offers its employees a "  new social deal ", according to a press release. The group wishes to implement an increase in working time equivalent to that of the other companies in the Amaury group.

This would result in particular in a reduction in the number of RTTs and the establishment of a time savings account. Employees would also be able to telecommute one day a week or 35 days a year.

Each employee would be asked to pay an annual drop in wages of around 10%, to be split between the 13th month and the basic salary. Collective wage increases would be frozen but individual increases maintained.

In case of refusal, a dismissal procedure may be initiated

In order to reward these efforts, the management undertakes to set up a profit-sharing system if the economic situation improves and to modify the calculation of the seniority bonus. The management plans to encourage the retirement of the oldest employees through a series of measures.

In return for the efforts of the employees, the general manager, Jean-Louis Pelé waives 15% of his annual compensation for the period 2020 to 2024. The members of the executive committee will, for their part, be subject to a reduction in compensation for the around 13%. The shareholder waives 50% of its holding royalty for the 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 fiscal years, i.e. 8 million euros over the period. The Team undertakes not to make redundancies for economic reasons over the period 2020/2024. Employees can accept or refuse this agreement, but in the event of refusal, a dismissal procedure may be initiated.
