(Fighting against New Coronary Pneumonia) Study: The serum positive rate of Wuhan New Crown is 3.8%, and the vast majority have no clinical symptoms

China News Agency, Guangzhou, June 9 (Cai Minjie, Li Xiaoshan) Southern Hospital of Southern Medical University said on the 9th that in order to understand the cumulative prevalence of new coronavirus infection in China during the epidemic of new coronavirus infection, the National Nephrology Clinical Research Center of the hospital jointly Research and medical institutions in Macao, Hong Kong, Hubei, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangdong and other places have assessed the infection rate of people attacked by New Coronavirus in different regions and different populations by detecting the specific antibody level of New Coronavirus in serum.

The study investigated a total of 17368 cases of various populations in Hubei, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangdong and other areas of the serum neocoronavirus-specific IgG and IgM antibody positive rate. The survey period is from March 9 to April 10 this year. The analysis showed that in Wuhan, the serum antibody positive rate was 3.8%, and the vast majority of antibody-positive subjects had no clinical symptoms.

The farther away from Wuhan, the lower the cumulative infection rate. The cumulative seroprevalence rate (2.5%) of people who visited hospitals (such as outpatients and hemodialysis patients) or hospital workers during the epidemic was significantly higher than that of ordinary community (0.8%).

The above research pointed out that the new coronavirus is a new and highly infectious pathogenic virus. After the human body is exposed to this new virus, no matter whether clinical symptoms appear, the immune system will respond accordingly to generate specific antibodies against the virus.

Research suggests that this antibody can be detected in the serum within 3 to 5 days after exposure to the virus, and the antibody can persist for at least 28 days. Therefore, the detection of serum specific antibodies against New Coronavirus can reflect whether the tested individual has been exposed to or infected with New Coronavirus recently, so as to more accurately assess the cumulative infection rate and prevalence of New Coronavirus.

It should be pointed out that a positive serum specific antibody against New Coronavirus does not mean that the subject is currently infected with New Coronavirus pneumonia. It is also unclear whether the detected antibodies are protective.

The research was published online on June 5 in the international authoritative academic journal "Nature·Medical". (Finish)
