Italian police announced yesterday that they have seized about 15 million euros of cash hidden in an unexpected place designed with great skill.

"Inside the apartment of the drug trafficker, the policemen noticed an unnatural matter in the distance between two walls," the police statement said.

"After checking the wall, the police found cavities that destroyed it. The discovery was shocking: the wall was false and hid 28 funds filled with bundles of cash totaling about 15 million euros.

The apartment was registered in the name of Massimiliano Cauci's father, who is considered one of the main drug dealers in the Milan region.

In a separate investigation by the Bologna (Central North) Court, Massimiliano Cauci was sentenced to prison for drug smuggling and was under house arrest until the final judgment.

After the recent discovery, which was described by the daily "La Stampa" as "the most prominent cash operation in Italy's history," Cauci lost the benefit of house arrest and was imprisoned.
