Common eye diseases in the elderly, cataracts and glaucoma can occur at the same time. Cataracts are caused by a gradual clouding of the lens present in the middle of the eye, the lens, which impairs far and near vision. Glaucoma is a damage to the optic nerve, often associated with high intraocular pressure, which leads to a narrowing of the field of vision.
