The Provincial Court of Madrid has sentenced the former mayor of O Grove Alfredo Bea Gondar to pay 16,480 euros in compensation to the publisher Libros del KO and the journalist Nacho Carretero for the damages caused by the precautionary kidnapping of the book Fariña .

In a car to which Efe has had access, the Court resolves the request for damages that Libros del KO and Carretero made for the losses caused by the kidnapping, a claim that was initially rejected by a court of first instance.

After the plaintiffs' appeal, the Provincial Court has decided to condemn Alfredo Bea Gondar to pay 3,437.96 euros to Nacho Carretero and 13,042.21 more to the publisher for copies that could not be sold during the three and a half months. The kidnapping lasted, taking into account that the book fairs in Madrid and Barcelona took place in between.

The judges have not considered proven damage for the 25,000 copies printed prior to the adoption of precautionary measures and which it was estimated would be sold during the broadcast of the television series based on the play Fariña of the same name.

The magistrates consider that the documentary evidence shows that the aforementioned copies were sold since more books had to be printed to attend to the sales after the kidnapping, which - in their opinion - demonstrates the absence of damage.

The events date back to March 5, 2018, when a judge from Collado Villalba ordered the execution of the kidnapping of the book Fariña , in which the Carretero delves into the history of Galician drug trafficking, as a precautionary measure for the demand for violation of honor presented by the former mayor.

Bea Gondar managed at the time that the work remained kidnapped for three and a half months by decision of Judge Alejandra Fontana, but finally the Madrid Court lifted that kidnapping and the substitute for that judge dismissed the demand for the right to honor that she had filed. the former mayor.
