The Technical Committee for Human Resources at ISO / TC260 is currently working on setting a set of specifications in the field of human resources, covering everything related to this branch of management science, starting from employment, and through learning and development and performance management, and ending with the end of the employee’s work period As a member of this committee, the term in the draft specification for merging employees stopped me, but I did not find a translation for him in the Arabic language, and he was new to me even in the English language, which is the term Presenteeism, meaning “excess attendance” or exaggeration in attendance, and the specification raises within its requirements that as far as The institution should try to understand the reasons and reduce the absence of employees, it must also understand the reasons for and reduce the "excessive attendance", and by researching this topic, I found that there is already a practice for some employees to come to work more than what is required of them.

The reasons that lead to exaggeration in the presence are multiple, including the lack of job security, where the employee tries to show his superiors that he is dedicated to work, so he appears before everyone and leaves after all, and stays in attendance even during the holidays, and some are not sufficient for actual attendance, but this extends to show their continuation in Working until early hours of the morning, they send emails late into the night and so on. The other reason is that some people really like his work and dedicate to it sincerely, and work may be all of his life. A third reason is to force employees to attend more because of the large number of tasks assigned to them. And the lack of tolerance of delay, or reduction of employment and redistribution of tasks to a smaller number of employees, and failure to grant employees sick leave even sick, and whoever gets sick leave is bully.

I started studying this phenomenon less than ten years ago, but studies are proceeding with it at a very rapid pace, and the institutions concerned with standards and specifications of work environments are seeking to develop frameworks to reduce this phenomenon and impose legal and moral responsibility on the institutions that allow it, and it is expected that this phenomenon will worsen after the return of Matters are normal during the coming months, and therefore it is important to be fully aware of the negative effects on employees and productivity as well, as published research (such as the Institute for Employment Studies study) indicates that exaggeration in attendance reduces productivity, and has negative, destructive effects in all concerned. I hope that the organizations that regulate the work environment and human resources, such as the Federal Authority for Human Resources and the human resources departments, join in this phenomenon and benefit from the published researches in this regard, as they are always proactive to adopt what benefits society and the happiness of employees.
